posted a message on <Name> the Kingslayer

I assume it was either this or "<Name>, Goldenhand the Just," but I suppose this was the less syllable-intensive workout.

Named for Varian Wrynn, the former Scrappy Doo of Warcraft before Blizzard melded him (often, and repeatedly) into a formidable and well-balanced character in his own right.

Named for the line of bloodthirsty and awesome Horde warriors, the Hellscream father... and son.

Probably more father and less son soon enough.

Named for Nobundo, the first draenei (well, Broken draenei) to learn the ways of the shaman. He's moved on to more glorious work in recent years, what with helping to down Deathwing.

posted a message on Thassarian's Plate

Named for Thassarian (didn't see that coming), the primary Alliance death knight. He was blessed with a slightly more impressive repertoire than his poor Horde equivalent, and even holds the distinction of killing him. Not that Koltira really holds it against him; they're surprisingly friendly enemies.

posted a message on Sunstrider's Regalia

The Horde mage set, named for Prince Kael'thas Sunstrider, lord of the blood elves, uncrowned (by his own choice) monarch of Quel'Thalas, and tragic victim of the great lore character purge of '07. And then again in '08...

Alternatively, named for his father, King Anasterian Sunstrider, who (unlike his son) actually managed to maintain some good press after his untimely demise.

Yeah, I thought it would be named for Jaina too.

posted a message on Gul'dan's Regalia

The namesake of this set (and its Alliance equivalent) is somewhat amusing, in that instead of the "faction heroes" associated with the less... well, evil classes these T9 sets are named for, Horde warlocks are doomed (or blessed?) to sport a set named in honour of none other than Gul'dan, chief warlock of the Old Horde and one of Warcraft's purest monsters. Still, no one can deny the guy had a certain style. Backstabbing the Backstabber and all...

It's easy to miss the importance of the namesake of this set (which is somewhat ironic, seeing as the guy has a giant statue in Stormwind), but for those uninitiated with the era of WC2: Turalyon is (or was) the Alliance paladin.
