This quest is a little buggy.  Don't follow the bloody trail until after youve gotten credit for "Locating it."  If it gets stuck, just make sure the shades are on and you walk in and out of the room the first blood splatter is in until you get credit.  This seems to be the most finicky part.

You'll get credit for following the trail when you make it to the upstairs of the Legerdemain Loungue.

Make sure you are stealthed before you go in the room in order to get credit for listening to the SI:7 dialogue.  If you forget, just run out of the room and back in stealthed.

You need this for several leatherworking quests, but after the first quest, she doesn't just give them to you.  You need to pick them up from her workbench.

This quest is very bugged and is kicking many people back to the quest giver without triggering the scenario.  If it's not putting you into the scenario, try abandoning the quest, resetting all instances, and trying again.  You may still need to do this several times for it to work.

There are several items you can obtain exclusively during this quest and scenario.  After starting the quest line but before you leave the dock to go to battle:

    • Visit Ravika in a hut right next to the dock to grab the old Patch 5.3 toys for a small amount of gold.
    • Stop by Fo'rum the Postmaker and pick up some posts.

You can only obtain these things as Horde.  For the Allianceitems, please see their version of the quest: The Battle for Broken Shore

    • After starting the quest line but before you leave to go to battle, visit Lenny "Fingers" McCoy in the harbor to grab a  Lucky Shirt and several other items.  The shirt is not currently transmoggable but may be in the future.
    •  Alaina's Bonnet is a transmoggable white hood.  See this comment for steps on how to obtain it.

This is obtained as Alliance only via the The Battle for Broken Shore Legion expansion scenario.

To get it, you must first loot the  Charred Locket from Ashes of a Fallen Crusader during the Broken Shore scenario.  This is easiest to do during Stage 7 of the scenario after the mobs have despawned.

Then, take that locket to Alaina Hearthsong in the Eastvale Logging Camp east of Goldshire in  Elwynn Forest.  She is found crying in the Inn-like building.  When you give her the locket, she says:

His locket?  Where did you get this?

No!  I don't believe you!  He can't be gone!

Cedric, oh my dear Cedric, please come back to me!

    Don't leave me all alone....

After you give her the locket, run far away from the camp to make her despawn.  When you return to the house, she will be gone and the chest at the foot of the bed upstairs will be inter-actable.  It will contain this item.

You are looking for an altar here, not a corpse or pile of ash.

The altar is most easily reached during Stage 7 of the The Battle for Broken Shore scenario.  You can reach it during Stage 6, but it will be protected by hostile mobs.  These mobs despawn when you start Stage 7.

This is the first quest on the chain to get a  Rainbow Generator.

If you have trouble doing this quest without accidentally killing the imp, you should use a  Soft Foam Sword.

If you're going back later to get yourself a  Rainbow Generator, there are a few quests you need to do assuming that you haven't done anything in  Felwood post-Cataclysm.

The first quest is in Ruins of Constellas from Arcanist Delaris called Do the Imp-Possible.  If you have trouble doing this quest without accidentally killing the imp, you should use a  Soft Foam Sword.

After you finish that, you'll get a few quests from Impsy (the imp you just kidnapped): See the Invisible followed by Touch the Untouchable.

After that, you pick up Break the Unbreakable from Arcanist Delaris.

After that, then you get this quest and your shiny new toy!
